Alex,

My responses to your questions are in line below, prefixed by "GRG:".

I'd like to try this patch but that requires kernel source, right? I would presume that this patch would work best when built against the kernel for which it was coded. Yes? The system I have is a Fedora Core 12 system. I do have their source rpm installed here. Would that suffice? I have in the past tried to take their (RHEL, CentOS) .config file and their source and re-build their kernel but it typically fails to boot. Their explanation is that "customized" kernels are not supported. This was my last run in with the CentOS folks, basically RedHat I believe. Can you point me to a "good" kernel? Could I expect their .config file to work?

The other crazy behavior seems to have gone away. I'll run with both parameters set as above and report to you.


Do you need to see other files from this system?

You might try this patch against radeon-drm-testing branch of Dave's drm tree:
http://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/0001-drm-radeon-kms-update-new-pll-algo.patch

and boot without the new_pll option.

As to the external monitor problem, do you have problems with any other modes, or just 1920x1200?  You might try adding radeon.new_pll=0 to the kernel command line.  I'm not sure I follow what's happening next.  Is the system locking up?  Does something trigger this or does this just happen at start up? Does booting with radeon.modeset=0 help?
