We had the blanking problem with about 40 cards when using Fedora
Core 3 (which is xorg 6.8.2 based). We solved the issue with the
reduced blanking (rb) method described above. We used rb modelines
after patching the driver to accept them.

Now we switched to Fedora Core 6, which uses xf86-video-ati rel
6.6.3. The blanking reappeared and even with the rb method (after
patching the driver) the problem remained.

For a few of our workstation we were able to reduce the problem by
lowering the refresh rate below 60 Hz, but not all displays accept
this.

We also tried the latest git of xf86-video-ati with no success.

So the current driver behaves worse in this respect than older
releases. This is a regression against the 6.8.3 release.

Is there any help or can anyone describe what could possibly lead to
this worse behaviour?
