Isn't make meant to be used in the ./autogen,sh for xserver from git?

I just downloaded xserver-code from git & ran ./autogen.sh and then I 
ran ./configure & then I came to run make & that's where it didn't work.

I think I've covered all the needed deps before compiling.

My dist is Mageia 1.
Arch is x86_64
Kernel is 2.6.38.8-desktop-10.mga
