X server crashing

Hi, I don't have any experience compiling kernels and only limited experience compiling application binaries, so I'm using the complete install distributed by Slackware Linux. My motivation for trying Slackware is to find out how things work, but I want to see how Patrick thinks it should work before introducing any breakage.  :-)

have you freshly compiled gcc?

which version of libc do you use?
