I cant answer the other questions but this one.
DisplayPort is already supported. If you do xrandr --query you see
HDMI-1 (name can differ on your system) which is the Displayport.
I have a DisplayPort on my X301 and I used it to connect to my plasma
tv (of course with an DP->HDMI adaptor)
