nv driver questions

Hi,
Trying to get a "better" resolution than 800x600.
Nvidia Riva 128 ZX card
Optiquest V95 monitor
Fedora 10

I've played with the conf a bit. In the monitor section, replaced the h,v ranges with the values reported by the monitor menu - no change.
In the display section, tried depths of 16 and 24, with and without the modes line. With the 1024 modes line, the server came up a couple of times with what seemed like 1024 but the screen was split horizontally. Now, it comes up consistently with just 800x600. ?

Both the card and monitor docs refer up to 1600x1200 at 85Hz.

I've noticed in the log that nv_drv.so was compiled for 1.5.2. Running 1.5.3 if that makes a difference.

A "depth" question, nvidia has a table:
resolution   colors per pixel
1024x768     256,65K,16M
1280x1024    256,65K
1600x1200    256,65K
Does this mean that depth should be 24 for the 1024, 16 for the others (even though I've read that nv only supports 24)?

That's about all that I can think of.
