Just go for it. AFAIK, doc conversion is mostly done on a need+time basis, so
you might be the only one working on it right now.

As for the patches, I think it might be best if you attach them to a bugreport
on bugs.freedesktop.org. This way there's a central place where we can find
them and push them into the repositories.
