As far as I remember, this is only printed with the monitor section above,
so I believe the monitor section is actually used.

Well, I do not fear to use current git versions, but I do fear huge
compilation times ;) 
Also already before writing my first mail about this topic, I found a
workaround, by adding a 99-randr-display-size script
to /etc/X11/Xsession.d/. 
I only did write to this list to notify about this problem and to help my
admin successors at university. If this problem remains for some time and
goes into Debian Lenny, they will have much fun in the future, when they
update...
