None of my 845G machines are available ATM, so I can't say exactly how I got
around it. Figure out whether you are currently using XAA or EXA, then add to
xorg.conf either 'Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"' or 'Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"'
to get the opposite, and leave out 'Option "NoAccel" "True"'.

Also a look at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17713 might help.

The Intel driver devs have been doing a poor job keeping the 845G working
acceptably while advancing the driver for newer chipsets and functions. :-(
