Should dual cards work?

In experimenting with -ati's xrandr, I could get dual screen working
with one card, but triple head with two cards doesn't seem to work (lots
of screen corruption).

Also, is Xinerama mode on -ati now deprecated, or is there a way to turn
off xrandr to use Xinerama?
