server 1.3 did not have the input hotplug rework. event generation 
between 1.3 and 1.4 is significantly different.

well, the thing is it's been broken for over a year and we don't even 
know if anybody is using it. This may mean we're dragging code along 
that is past its expiry date. Maintaining it for no other reason that 
that we've always maintained it is IMO pointless.

we have modular releases, so we can very quickly update a driver and 
release it if somebody steps up and actually complains (and does the 
testing :)
