build.sh stops with "not a git repository" and autogen error

Hi all!
This is my first mail on the list.
I searched everywhere for the answer on
why the build.sh stops on two places:
luit and xconsole, both in the "app" directory.

The script stops in luit/luit-1.0.2/_buld with a message:
not a git repository error 128, error 1
Same error in the xconsole/xconsole-1.0.2/_build.

Other error is that build scipt stops with error in app/xprop
saying that "AC_CHECK_HEADERS_ONCE is not defined". 
(Line 38) And "try with a m4_..._".

I use Fedora 5 with original X (7.0.0).
