XFixes in Xorg?

I am working with the Xdmx DDX. I need to use a function from
libXfixes. I have got it working by adding /usr/lib/libXfixes.a to
Xdmx_LDADD in $xserver/hw/dmx/Makefile.am but I don't think that is
the best way to do it? Should I even be linking against the systems
libXfixes?

What file should I modify to cause Xdmx to be linked against libXfixes?
