Gentoo has an ebuild for Xorg-7.1, and the 1.7.2 i810 driver. They're
masked under ~x86.
If you don't use Gentoo, just look in the ebuild for how to compile it.

PS: Thanks a TON to whomever wrote the 1.7.2 i810 driver! I've a Intel
915GM, which just refused to work (with acceleration) with previous
versions. It works (almost) flawlessly with 1.7.2. It even wakes up
properly when I suspend to ram (something that I can't get the linux
console to do). This is sort of counterintuitive, since every FAQ
online says "If you have trouble, exit X before hibernating".
I was contemplating patching it myself, when I upgraded and found
everything was (almost) perfect! So thanks again whomever patched
the i810 1.7.2 driver!
