XAA vs. EXA in old hardware support

Hmm, I did some measurements as well ( previous post... ) and repeating 
the same tests on XFree86 4.5 showed a consistent, significant 
performance advantage for XFree86. About 10% in low level tests like 
line- and font drawing, about 20% in -map.
The driver is the same source-wise, so is the hardware, the compiler 
and optimization options.
Xorg 7.0 uses significanly less memory though which kind of outweights 
the performance decrease ( ancient sparcbook which maxes out at 64MB )

So, is it just me or has this been observed elsewhere?
