915GM with i810: xrandr crashing

Ok, whats the best way to do this? I found some reference to

but there isn't a libshadow.so anymore. I tried the i810_drv.so from
this page, but it failed because of a version mismatch:

So I will probably have to build libshadow.so for myself. But the version
mismatch above makes me wonder, if I can use the source from
xorg-server-X11R7.1-1.1.0.tar.bz2 without rebuilding the whole X (7.0, debian
packages)?
