X at FOSDEM2006 is an X Developers HotHouse on friday February, 24th, and
an X.org DevRoom at FOSDEM2006 during the weekend of the 25th and 26th,
all in Brussels, Belgium.

You can read all about it at http://wiki.x.org/wiki/fosdem2006

X has sizeable communities at each side of the atlantic, and it isn't
always as straightforward for everyone to cross an ocean to attend a
conference or meeting at the other side. X at FOSDEM2006 is the chance to
catch up on XDevConf (http://wiki.x.org/wiki/XDevConf), as Stuart
Kreitman (who's doing a great job organizing XDevConf) will be
personally filling you in on the highlights of XDevConf.

FOSDEM is one of the biggest community events on european soil and it
had a very big X shaped void last year. With the DevRoom this year, we
can really make a difference. And who knows, if X at FOSDEM2006 is a
success, then FOSDEM could become a yearly X tradition.

The HotHouse principle is also being revived at FOSDEM and a HotHouse
is all about bringing the right people together. So if you are hesitant
about registering for it (which is nothing more than mailing
fosdem-org at lists.x.org stating that you're coming) for it, others might
be hesitating too.

So if you would've loved to attend the XDevConf and are unable to, come
to X at FOSDEM2006. If you have a budget that can bear both, then come to
both! But don't hestitate or wait, as then you might end up missing both
events. These events can only become successful if you attend.

For potential DevRoom speakers:

The first week of january is already over, which means that the loose
deadline for X at FOSDEM2006 talk submission was passed. This deadline was
there so that the people of FOSDEM would have something to put in the
printed brochure they hand out to visitors, and i expect them to come
knocking for their list in the next week or so.

Talks will of course be accepted until a few days before the actual
event, but the most we can do then is have you listed on wiki.x.org and
on the fosdem site. So if you're coming and if you want to hold a talk
in the X.org DevRoom, mail fosdem-org at lists.x.org quickly, so that you
can still make it on to the brochure.

There's only 7 weeks left until X at FOSDEM2006, so there isn't much time
left to lose. Mail us (Egbert Eich, Keith Packard and myself) at
fosdem-org at list.x.org right away!

Thanks,

Luc Verhaegen.
