Backwards incompatible Xv changes (CVS Update: xserver (branch: trunk))

What happened to the plans of doing this in a backwards compatible way,
e.g. by adding new Xv hooks for pixmaps? That wouldn't have required
changing every single driver that supports Xv and would have provided
the server with the means to know whether or not a driver correctly
supports Xv with redirection.

I don't remember seeing any discussion leading to this solution; did I
miss anything?
