book about computer graphics involved in the construction of windowing systems

Hi,

There is any good book about the computer graphics involved in the 
construction of windowing systems? I'm searching for something theorical 
with the maths involved in the composite process and other things needed 
to construct and windowing system.

By the way, can anyone list the operations that X provide? I know it 
does the basics drawing and composite. What more?
