It's a perfectly good idea for graphic design and DTP, where you need
to be able to use arbitrary font sizes (and hence outline fonts).

It doesn't make sense when you are simply displaying textual
information, where the finite choice of sizes provided by unscaled
bitmap fonts isn't a problem.
