xft upgrade path

Hi,

I have hit this bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=118587 in that
mozilla segfaults on startup trying to do font stuff, supposedly
effects gnome-terminal as well.

The version of xft on my system was installed with X.org 6.8.2, when I
examine the .pc file for xft I find I have version 2.1.2.2.

Name: Xft
Description: X FreeType library
Version: 2.1.2.2

Supposedly I need to update to 2.1.6 (see Redhat bugzilla comments),
which means a rebuild of X.org, and all the gnome stuff which depends
on xft.

Google tells me Xft comes from the xlibs project but I cant find the
upstream source. From http://xlibs.freedesktop.org/release/current/
page I can find version 2.1.3.

http://freedesktop.org/software/fontconfig/releases/ lists xft-2.1.2
as the latest release.

Some pointers as to where I would find xft-2.1.6 or later would be
much appreciated.

>From http://lists.freedesktop.org/pipermail/release-wranglers/2004-March/000047.html
I see some discussion on being able to build versions of xft not
bundled in the monolithic tree and comments that a #define HasXft was
to be implemented for host.def, did this make it into 6.8.2?

Or is it possible that I apply
http://cvs.freedesktop.org/xlibs/Xft/xftfreetype.c?r1=text&r2=text&tr1=1.40&tr2=1.42&makepatch=1&diff_format=c
to the xft in X.org 6.8.2 rebuild and the problem fixed.

Any suggestions or pointers greatly appreciated.....

Mark Carey
