You're talking 2D, he's talking 3D.

In order to use the Mach64, you need an X server which includes the 
Mach64 DRI stuff, and you need the Mach64 DRM kernel module loaded. 
Without those, you will -not- get 3D accel. 2D will work great, but 3D 
-- forget it.
