[Xorg] fatal server error:out of memory

While trying to run xorgsetup I came up with a blank screen followed by
a series of system beeps. The /var/log/Xorg.0.log showed a lot of info,
pages of it. Towards the end it began to read
WW ***INVALID MEM ALLOCATION*****…(hex left out)…..correcting  -followed
by a lot of hex numbers. At the end of the log it comes up Fatal server
error: Out of memory.
 
Can anyone assist me with correcting this out of memory problem. *hint*
I can’t get more memory for the box, it’s a 486 with 16MB and I’m not
willing to go find ram for it, or spend any money on this old box.
Slackware runs fine with this config, and I assume Xorg would too.
