Mozilla's Xlib toolkit (see
http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/gfx/src/xlib/XIE.c for a
primitive image scaler) and the old versions of Mozilla GTK+ toolkit
supported it, too. In the meantime the GTK+ toolkit's XIE support was
removed since it caused many problems (for example some NCD Xterminals
opened a dialog and asking to purchase the XIE extenstion - see
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77645). Recently there was a
debate how to increase rendering performance... and at least for Solaris
(since XIE is available by default since years and doesn't open license
dialogs :) the XIE extension would be a cheap&easy way to gain more
performance (another idea may be to investigate whether it's usefull to
add support to Qt).
