Same here with radeon 7500 agp on the debian amd64 port (gcc 3.4).
Kernel is 2.6.10. Glxgears locks the server instantly. I've seen a
very similar lockup while playing various games as well.

I don't force any options away from the default in my xorg.conf.

Hmm. I have render accel enabled (verified in the xorg log file), but
my font rendering looks fine.

I'm willing to do testing on this problem, but I'm about to swap a
9200 into this box (arrived in the mail today). So if a developer has
anything they want me to test, they should speak up soon.
