X.Org and XFree86 already use perl during build, and have done so for
many many years.  bdftruncate.pl (and previously ucs2any.pl which is
now written in C) are used during build time.  Also, there is another
perl script which escapes me for the moment that is used to produce
the modeline database that gets compiled into the server.

Since perl has been used for years now, I don't see any major reason
why it shouldn't continue to be a valid tool to use if it is useful.
