The problem with this theory is that it will then forever cause
gratuitous differences between otherwise identical files between the
trees, as soon as these go into the modular tree.
I think it optimistic not to expect people to continue to use the
monolithic tree for quite a while during a conversion process that has
so many different platforms; making it simple to have patches to apply
to both trees during a more extended transition period seems wise to me.
If one tree has these additions, and the other does not, then we are
back to a manual patching process, even if the identical patch would
otherwise apply to both trees....
Or am I confused? (always possible...)
