This is the "emergency" method - the preferred method for those who are
using traditional BIOSen (i.e. - not coreboot or OpenFirmware), is to
enable the panel in the BIOS - there should be an option in the config
screen somewhere to do that. Failing that, the above option is a
reasonable alternative, though it requires you to have a xorg.conf which
isn't popular these days in the modern distributions.
