As you can see from the previous message, the renaming of the
xf86-video-amd to xf86-video-geode has been completed, and a new
release has been made (2.8.0). We are now ready to start looking
to the future and establish a roadmap for new development.
New features identified on the roadmap will be scheduled for
release every three months, with intermediate patchlevel releases
as needed during the three month cycle to fix bugs.
New features for the roadmap should be proposed with a bug on
bugs.freedesktop.org. We will put them on the roadmap based
on the availability of resources and priority.
The following is our current roadmap (note: The next release will
actually be in 2 and 1/2 months to put us on track for the Ubuntu
beta cycle). This is based on the development resources we currently
have committed:
* 2.9.0 (2008-06-15)
- libDDC support for Geode - Jordan
- Finish OLPC support - Currently unstaffed, will be either Jordan or
Stefano Fedrigo
* 2.10.0 (2008-09-15)
- Port to RandR >= 1.2 - Jordan
* 2.11.0 (2008-12-15)
- Merge 'nsc' and 'cyrix' - Jordan
As we get more developers committed to development, then we may move some
of the above tasks to an earlier release. This roadmap is also available
on the Wiki page:
http://www.x.org/wiki/AMDGeodeDriver
So what can you, the loyal Geode users do? First of all, test, test, test.
Secondly, suggest new roadmap items with through the bug tracking system.
And thirdly, if you have the time and desire, commit to help with one
of the existing tasks or offer to take on a new task. Our development
is only limited by the amount of people we have to work on it - the more
developers we get, the more features we will have.
Thanks,
Jordan
