Thanks for your help. I'm going to read through your other response in
more depth tomorrow and keep looking at this. So far I see no
artifacts on the screen and glxgears on this machines (i7-980x with
the 5770) does about 940FPS which is fine.
I do need to figure out why the console text is gone after udev. I do
use the console quite a lot so I need to get that working, but I'm
fine in a terminal most of the time so nothing to worry too much
about. Dual monitors is a long term requirement but I can live this
way for a little while.
