Ok, I take that back, somewhat.  I'm still getting corruptions, but not from
scrolling anymore.  The patch has improved X to the point of being usable, but
not 100%.  And the ERRORs in dmesg have disappeared, even when I do get
corruption.  And the corruption I do get is harder to reproduce.
