If you are trying to start X with the lid closed and no external
monitors attached, it will not detect any connected outputs.
Generally when users start X with the lid closed, they want to use one
or more external monitors and we get complaints about the internal
panel being "on" when the lid is closed. I'm not sure what the best
middle ground is. Maybe an option to ignore lid events?
