Speaking of $prefix in my previous reply, my rules file has:

    PROGRAM="/home/nadon/xorg/inst/bin/vmmouse_detect"

but that rules file in the real /lib/udev/rules.d has:

    PROGRAM="/bin/vmmouse_detect"

The distro must customized this because the system prefix on my box is /usr.
