How to create new Xorg git modules?

I am trying to create two new Xorg git modules for Looking Glass: a 
proto module and a lib module.
I am following the instructions in the GitMigration document but they 
aren't working. Specifically,
I did the following command:

scp -rp .git deronj at git.freedesktop.org:/git/xorg/proto/lg3dproto

and, after I entered my passphrase, I got the error:

Unsupported command "scp -r -p -t /git/xorg/proto/lg3dproto"
 lost connection

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
