X server

[Lightning]

Whenever I try to log on to my Raspberry pi the screen goes black and then
reappears.
When I try to do it from terminal, using the startx command, it says:

Fatal server error:
(EE) Could not write pid to lock file in /tmp/.tX1-lock
(EE)
(EE)
Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support

for help.

xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
