about getting higher screen resolution in Vbox vms

I'm running openindiana (a solaris offshoot) as guest in a virtualBox
vm.
Running Vbox=4.3.10 (latest version) on windows7 64bit
Not familiar with drivers that might be used or how to use the system
hardware to best advantage when dealing with guest OS inside a vm.
Openindiana uses a gnome desktop under xorg.
I don't really know for sure if I'm using the 'pkg' command correctly
in finding these versions....
versions: xorg-core 7.5-0
server 1.7.7
All gnome listings show 0.5.11
------- ------- ---=--- ------- -------
Can anyone here tell me how to get a higher screen resolution?
Are there ways to edit xorg.conf to make that happen?
Current resolution is 1440 x 1050.
My monitor is capable of 1900x1220
I'd like to get as close to that as possible.
It may be the case that the vm is seeing the laptop screen as the only
available monitor... I'm running a laptop thru a kvm switch and using
a 25.5 in asus monitor.
And it may be that the monitor is set 'virtually' for vms for all I
know.
So, any pointers about where to start or pointers about editing
xorg.conf would be appreciated.
Also, Is there anything toward increased resolution that can be done
with xrandr?
