Lost keyboard input on X

Attempting to build GNOME 3 from source, I lost keyboard input to my
graphical environment -- which already was running my build of X from
Xorg and was working fine with WindowMaker.

But still can not type even at my XDM login prompt.

Any insight would be appreciated.
