Hello there, I am not the most tech savvy person in the world, but the
wiki.x.org FAQ did not seem to solve my problem.

I installed Ubuntu 13.04 onto a Toshiba L75D-A7283, but I replaced the
stock HDD with a Seagate 1tb Hybrid Drive.

Upon booting it loads into command line and ask for my login and password,
which I provide. Then I type startx into the console ( supposedly to start
the GUI ) and the following is what I am shown on screen.
