libXft 2.3.0 not so good

Distro makers probably want to hold off on packaging the 2.3.0 upgrade
until we get a 2.3.1 release out to fix:

(I guess no one noticed during the months the broken commits were sitting
  in git, but throw out a tarball, and suddenly people use it.)
