Backing Store not working in 8 Bit color depth with vesa driver

If this is the case, is there anything that can be done?  I am running
an XDMCP CDE session from a UNIX host computer, so all I am currently
executing is /usr/bin/Xorg :0 -query <hostname> -from <myip> +bs -wm
-fp tcp/<hostIP>
