No mouse, no keyboard in X

I found this in the log. 

(WW) AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or
'vmmouse' will be disabled.

about 950 lines later in the log. (I shall reboot and replug keyboard only,
to see if this line is logged after replugging. Ctrl-Alt-F1 and read the
log.)
