X11 error from home grown application

Anyone know where I can start looking to figure out why I'm getting the 
following error in our application:

X Error of failed request:  BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
   Major opcode of failed request:  42 (X_SetInputFocus)
   Serial number of failed request:  7398113
   Current serial number in output stream:  7398114
