commit d6b7f96fde1add92fd11f5a75869ae6fc688bf77 causes Xserver segmentation fault

Chris,

I git pulled the latest code today, and it's still causing segmentation
fault running VMware on this commit. Reverting it solves the problem. Is
there anything that can be done to resolve this in a proper way than
reverting the code?
