How to increase DPI on Compaq Mini 702EA (1024x600) Ubuntu 9.10

Thanks again for our reply with info.

I have these tasks running:

I can't figure out where X gets called from though. I've been grepping 
/etc/* for various strings, but nothing has come up.

I may remove the gdm package and just do "startx", and see if I can 
get it working from there.
