Dual-head config broke with update to 1.4.2

It just occurred to me:

how do things work if you have a triple screen setup with two video
cards (I do at home) and the driver for one or both cards doesn't do
classic dual-screen, only randr?

Can you have one xrandr/xinerama screen combining monitors across
multiple cards?
