As to the external monitor problem, do you have problems with any other
modes, or just 1920x1200? You might try adding radeon.new_pll=0 to the
kernel command line. I'm not sure I follow what's happening next. Is the
system locking up? Does something trigger this or does this just happen at
start up? Does booting with radeon.modeset=0 help?
