.XCompose problems

Folks,

My ~/.XCompose file has stopped working. I've simply copied
/usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8 and added these four lines at the
very beginning:

  <Multi_key> <minus> <greater> : "→"
  <Multi_key> <minus> <less> : "←"
  <Multi_key> <minus> <asciicircum> : "↑"
  <Multi_key> <minus> <v> : "↓"

It seems that something else (SCIM?) is overwriting the data from
~/.XCompose... How can I debug this?

In case it matters: `X -version' gives

  X.Org X Server 1.6.5
  Release Date: 2009-10-11
  X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX
  Current Operating System: Linux linux-nvf0 2.6.32-rc5-git3-1-pae #1
                            SMP 2009-11-03 15:41:35 +0100 i686
  Build Date: 04 November 2009 12:29:10PM

I'm running a de_DE.UTF-8 locale, and XCOMPOSEFILE isn't set.

BTW, you should close FreeDesktop bug #3139 since there is now a
Compose.5 man page. Is there any reason why this man page isn't
called XCompose.5? Perhaps you can add an alias...
