LibX11 and libXrender dependency loop?

Here is LibX11:

And here is Libxrender:

checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for RENDER... configure: error: Package requirements (x11
renderproto >
= 0.9) were not met:

No package 'x11' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables RENDER_CFLAGS
and RENDER_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

How is one supposed to go building the libs section of X11R7.5? I'm using
all versions that can be found in the 7.5 release directory. This one has me
kinda stumped.

Thanks for any suggestions.
