xfs problem on Ubuntu/Intrepid

Thank you for your answer, and also to Alan.
I dont really need it, so I already removed it, but my main question was:

  How can you explain that xfs needs to be restarted to work properly?

I still would like to have this explained, as this may reveal another
hidden issue.
