can't VT switch with intel

Anybody else having this problem?  With Linux 2.6.28 (x86-64), Intel
2.5.1, and xorg 1.5.99.3 I can't switch VT on GM965.  If I chvt from
X, I just see garbage (vertical green stripes, etc).  I can switch
back to X, though, and the machine doesn't crash or anything like
that.
